CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 3RD TEAM ON WINNING THE TITLE, AND TO THE 1ST TEAM ON SECURING PROMOTION

Membership Secretary Role Up for grabs

As you may know, the Old Mods Association is the wider organisation that the football section – and other sections – form part of. The Association Committee is responsible for the infrastructure of the Old Mods, including

  • ensuring that the premises are sound and secure, and that relevant health and safety rules and regulations are observed
  • managing expenditure and income
  • managing relationships with utilities companies [to ensure adequate heating, lighting, water supplies etc]
  • appointing - and liaising with - a bar manager
  • agreeing relevant expenditure relating to maintenance and improvement of the club premises
  • ensuring that membership records are accurate
  • various other miscellaneous and  ad hoc tasks

The Association Committee undertakes important work on behalf of its members but is also ultimately accountable to those members. As you are probably aware, Gary Lovelace and Mick Birch were recently elected as the Association Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively and are now serving Association Committee members. Currently, the position of Membership Secretary is unfilled, as the previous post-holder, Richard Rothwell has agreed to take up the position of Association Treasurer. Gary – as Association Chair – has now written to each section to ask whether anyone is prepared to assume the role of Membership Secretary. As the Football Section Committee, we would very much encourage our members to consider volunteering for this post, as it’s not only an opportunity to contribute to the success of the wider Association, but it also offers an insight into how the whole Association is managed. In addition to Gary and Mick, Alex Pouncett attends meetings as our section representative [a position mirrored by rugby & cricket sections ] so anyone who volunteers would enjoy the support of other football section colleagues.

Although this is an important position, it’s probably fair to say that it’s not an especially time-consuming role, so it’s unlikely to have a significant impact on the rest of your life. It’s likely that you’ll be invited to attend Association meetings every 6 – 8 weeks and – although 100% attendance isn’t expected – there is a general assumption that elected officers will make reasonable efforts to attend. In terms of learning what’s required in the role, the timing is excellent, as Richard remains on the Committee and will beperfectly willing to provide advice and support as necessary.

If you would like more information about what the post would entail, Gary would be happy to have an informal chat.
