Match Report - 22 Oct 2011, Old Modernians Football Club 4ths beat Old Batelians III
Don't be fooled by the scoreline, this game could easily have gone the other way as we battled against supremely talented, hugely reslilient and fantastically organised opponents. Indeed, if it hadn't been for a sublime finish by Ian 'goals' Vinall this could have been a very different story. Was it only 6 months ago that Viners was struggling, largely unsuccessfully it has to said, against his inner demons (not to mention the 14 pints of Guiness he had consumed the day before when yet again a quiet Friday lunctime drink ended on Saturday). In fact, it was against these same mighty opponents last year when he reached his nadir, being turned, outfoxed and outpaced by an opponent who, by his own admission, hadn't 'beaten his man' for over 40 years. Six months is indeed a long time in football.
In truth, a straightforward win that lifts us into the top half of the table. A patchy performance overall, although Flint, Clapham and Hollings stood out, particularly in the first half.

After the match in the press room
"Its always a good sign, I think, when the other team starts rotating the goalkeeper" Mullin manager suggesting when he thought the game may have been won.
" I don't know how Viners scored from there, one second he was 100 metres away from the ball, the next second it was in the back of the net-the guy is pure class" Joe Clapham, can only stand and admire.
"Ok, so I had been a bit of a bad lad, and I changed it around, but I never had to come back from where Ian Vinall was 6 months ago" St Paul, aka Saul, (check your bibles) simiarly, in awe of the Vianll transformation.
