Match Report
Match Report - 07 Jan 2012, Old Modernians Football Club 5ths beat Ealandians III
Another fine win for the team.
After the team answered Gary’s letter to father Christmas asking for a win as a Christmas present, we followed this with a gritty, determined scrap against a good team in Ealandians.
Having shipped in 6 goals last time out against the opposition we owed ourselves a performance. We delivered.
Awful conditions to play football in, but both teams played aswell as can be expected and on occasions both teams offered glimpses of their style, i.e., pass and move football.
In the end the goal on the stroke of half time by wonder-kid Jonny Walker was enough and we battled until the 95th minute and held on.
Goalkeeper Dave Collins, a.k.a. mad dog, hasn’t had that many mentions on this forum or been awarded a man of the match this season. This is not a reflection of the type of season Dave is having.
Here are a few statistics to highlight this.
Dave played in the first 4 games of the season, earning a clean sheet in 1 of these games. 9 goals conceded, 7 of which were to 2nd in the league East Ardsley.
In the 5th game Dave suffered an injury, which was to rule him out for the next 4 games. At the time he left the field we had conceded 1 goal and were ahead 3-1.
=10 goals conceded in first 5 games picking up 7 points along the way.
The next 4 games without Dave the team conceded 20 goals and earned 0 points.
Since Dave’s return, which incidentally saw Dave keep his 2nd clean sheet of the season, the team has conceded 10 in 6 games, including 2 clean sheets, collecting 8 points in 5 league games and suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat in the cup.
Overall when Dave has been the keeper the team has conceded 20 goals in 10 (and a half!) games and collected 15 points. Without Dave we have conceded 20 goals in 4 games and collected 0 points.
When Dave has been on the pitch we have a record of W4 D3 L4 F20 A20.
The game on Saturday saw Dave make some excellent saves again, ensuring the team kept a clean sheet and earned itself a hard fought victory.
No man of the match was awarded on Saturday though, as the game was all about all 14 players doing their equal and level best for the team, so once again no man of the match award for Dave Collins.
(12 mentions for Dave in this report!)
