"Stinks of Deja Vu!"
Debuts for the Mods for Lucas Sefton, Elliot Coultas and Billy Shield
Spirits are high, the group are growing in confidence week by week and are really keen to impress.
Retaining the right to wear the red and black cloth that is the mods shirt is the challenge set for the whole of the squad. Attitude is king.
The lads were ready for a tough test and wanted nothing less than a victory, and in football wins is what matters. Mods were keen to continue where they left off last week against a strong Weatherby side.
The game started in a similar fashion, with the men in red and black playing the right football in the right areas, creating chances and putting some real pressure on the Weatherby players. Skelton and France worked the ball down the right hand side with some real success, exposing the Weatherby left back on several occasions, a slightly better ball into the danger zone being the only this missing. Sefton and Langley were also getting some of the ball on the left, with both players working the ball through the thirds with real confidence. One notable chance fell for Donaldson as he saw a lovely flighted ball put into the box only for him to find the keeper, a great strike but a perfect starting position from the Weatherby keeper (their MOTM) who made an excellent save 8 yards, every other day of the week that hits the back of the net.
Despite their clear football superiority, the men in Red and Black found themselves scratching their heads, as the Weatherby midfield fought through the middle of the pitch and slotted home to give Weatherby the lead. This absolutely reeked of the previous two weeks, of dominating the game, not taking early chances and giving the opposition time to play themselves into the game. We, Must, Finish, Our, Chances!
After being a goal behind, the balance of the game did not change, the spirit and fight of the Mods continued and chances were still being created. Kluska found himself in the Weatherby half slightly off to the right, he superbly found the first of the debutants who was in space just inside the area and Sefton stuck perfectly, leaving the Weatherby keeper with no chance.
Half time, one goal each. With Mods comfortably the better football team. Key lesson here, don't look at the league table! Despite their poor results so far the Weatherby lads are no mugs and they showed this by finishing off their only chance of the half. Gibbons, Stubley and Kluska with a comfortable half. The Weatherby lads must be wondering how they went into half time all square, and the Modsmen similarly thinking how the chuff it wasn't four or five! We, Must, Take, Our, Chances.
Weatherby found another gear second half and really tried hard to break down a solid Mods back line. They found some success with the ever reliable Gibbons in goal ready to fend off their best efforts.
At one goal a piece, this game really could have gone either way. Mods were working hard to create chances, and Weatherby defending well and looking to counter. The pressure from Mods eventually came through, with a really good strike from Skelton finding its way into the back of the net. Love to see it! Mods were the better team, there is absolutely no doubt about that but Weatherby were more than capable of a snatch and grab.
In summary, work rate, desire, grit and perseverance won the game for the Mods. Stand out debut for Sefton who showed glimpses of quality.
