Members of the Leeds Modernians squad will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge* on September 5th. 80% of funds raised will go to Candlelighters** – a charity which helps fight children’s cancers and support families through difficult times and 20% will go to the club to help us meet escalating running costs.
It will be a great social day out for the club, with a well-deserved pint at the end of the 24 mile hike, so if you want to sign up to join the walking team all you need to do is pay £5 to the club bank account with the reference Y3PC.
- We are meeting to start the walk at 6.30am in Chapel le Dale — LA6 3AR ( where there is limited free parking, it's usually quiet).
We will have a support team on the day, so if you are unable to walk with us but still want to help, please let Nick know on 07846 491473.
To avoid the bank charges of fundraising sites, we are simply asking people to collect to any sponsorship or donations they can raise and to transfer the final amount into the club account by September 11 – again with the reference Y3PC. Bank details are: Treasurers Account, Sort: 30-90-09, Account number 52134960
To help you raise funds, here’s a message we’ve provided for you to share by text, social media and by email with your networks: Just copy and paste this.
I’m doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge on September 5th to raise money for Candlelighters Childrens Cancer Charity (80%) and Leeds Modernians grassroots football club (20%) and it would be great if you were able to help me with a small donation. Think of it as paying NOT to walk the 24 miles!
Please get involved if you can. It will be a good day out, we’ll be doing good work and we’ll have the added bonus of it being valuable extra fitness for us all.
*The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. **Nick Powell – “Candlelighters is close to my heart. It’s an amazing charity that has really helped a family I am close to who have suffered greatly at the hands of childhood cancer. Because of the Covid19 pandemic they haven’t been able to hold their annual fundraising day in memory of their daughter, Summer, so I would love to be able to help them out by raising some of the money they give to Candleighters each year.”
