Match Report - 01 Oct 2011, Leeds Modernians Football Club 4ths lost to Beeston OB Reserves

This game was far more even than the score suggests. In the proverbial nutshell, they punished our mistakes mercilessly, and we let them off with theirs. Lessons that should be learnt;

1. If you've got a chance to clear it in our defensive third of the pitch, clear it.
2. If you've got a chance to clear it in our defensive third of the pitch, clear it.
3. If you've got a chance to clear it in our defensive third of the pitch, clear it.

Do that, my friend, and you will not concede many goals at this level (still working on a theory as to why we didn't manage to score).

Some plus points were the performances of Joe Clapham up front (tireless) and Josh Smith in midfield (impressive).

Also, a massive thanks to Mick who made sure we were as well prepared as we could be, and as well briefed as to our roles as we needed to be. The thing is, the best management in the world is to no avail if players make basic mistakes on a regular basis, particularly against accomplished opponents.

We'll learn.

MOM Joe Clapham.

In the after match press conference

"Who the f**k won that you fat t**t"-a local passer by, aged 7, pops over to ask Mick (or was it Viners) the final score

"Why are their players so big, yet their houses are so small?" Matt Flint ponders one of life's great socio-economic connundrums

"They were simply hungrier than us, and I mean, literally, hungrier"-Mullin manager puts his finger on where it all went wrong-we eat too much.
