Match Report - 28 Jan 2012, Leeds Modernians Football Club 3rds drew with Middleton Park

Old Modernians Res – 2
White
Keeney

Middleton Park - 2

Saturday the 28th January saw Middleton Park visit the Tinshall top arena.
On the back of a tremendous performance the week previously Mods spirits
were high as was the confidence within the squad.

This week saw Sam Lunt fit in at left back, in replacement of the absent
Andy Shirley, plus a return to the squad for the talented winger Michael
Keeney. Adam Binns was given the job at partnering Dan White upfront to
lead a 4-4-2 formation.

The first half saw Middleton out the blocks quicker than Mods with no real
outcome… however as the game went on Middleton started to get more and more
joy from their counter attacking football with their pacey striker proving
to be a handful. For reasons unknown, Mods looked more like they were going
through the motions than showing the drive that was on display the previous
week. Then after a Mods attacking move broke down from the top corner of
the oppositions half, Middleton broke quickly and took the lead from a well
worked move. To be fair to the opposition, they continued to create the
better chances, and Mods were lucky to go in at half time 0-1 down.

Half time.
Time to regroup.

The second half started well, Mods started to win the personal battles and
a driving run from Skipper Lazenby was a sign of things to come. He drifted
passed his opposite centre midfielder rocketing a shot inches over the bar.
This lead the team to play with a little more confidence, Binns & Douglas
started to be more involved, but Keeney challenged a defender forcing the ball into the path of Dan White who managed to rocket the ball into the top corner. 1-1. Dan continues his rich goal scoring form.

On-going pressure from Mods saw a gambling Keeney bravely challenging the
Middleton keeper and heading home(2-1).

Within seconds of scoring Keeney then pulled up with an injured buttock
bringing forward the mangers 2nd half changes. Hill Was then introduced
along with Bowman for the strong tackling Blake.

Mods continued to push forward and work the ball well creating a number of
chances, without being able to provide the finishing touch.

5 Minutes to go, Mods conceded a corner. Which was cleared well, only to
fall to the left back of the opposition. Out of nowhere the player hit a
shot (he had no right in hitting – 30 yards out) leaving Keeper Dawtry with
no chance.

2-2.

Mods left the field feeling that they had lost. Coming away with a point,
from what was the worst performance so far this season isn’t all that bad.
Mods must now show character again and work hard to bring home 3 points
against fellow title contenders Colton Institute Reserves.
