Match Report

Match Report - 06 Oct 2012, Leeds Modernians Football Club 4ths beat Grangefield OB Res

At last, a proper contest, after 2 weeks of playing acquiescent traffic ones who appeared to have lost their way to 'the shops' and decided to stop off on a football pitch.

Very gratifying to see we hadn't been flattered by poor teams, but could actually knuckle down and get a result against a very capable, and extremely nasty team from the wrong side of the proverbial tracks.

Without for one second wanting to put higher team managers off the scent, Jonny Hick laboured, and his goalscoring drought has now extended to one game. Phil Gillett could not lay a glove on the ball and apart from about 75 passes completed to teammates in dangerous positions, and 35 perfectly executed tackles, had absolutely no impact on a game that largely passed him by. As for Tom Bedford, just a poor man's Toddy. And if Tommy Snowden thinks that beating at least one man every single time you get the ball, and passing it to a team mate in an even better position is the way to play football, then God help us.

After the match, with the World's press in attendance;

"I can't belive it, you couldn't make it up, Hick and Gillette come within an inch of destroying my beloved (Liverpool) football club and then lo and bloody behold they turn up here trying to wreck the Mods 4th team! They'll be stealing my bloody women on Match.com next!" Mullin, very angry, Manager

"I've got to go at half time, and leave this crucial game, against a fellow promotion contender, when you've only got 12 in the squad, to go and watch,---- the rugby" Andy Hollins, booking his place in next weeks fifth team

"They seemed a bit rough, and nasty, and quite quick and strong up front, and by the way, where was Viners?" Thomas Bedford, kind of answers his own question
