Match Report - 20 Sep 2008, Leeds Modernians Football Club 2nds lost to Bramley Juniors OB III (District Cup 1st Round)
A hugely disappointing result against a willing although very limited Bramley side. The creation of at least 12 very acceptable chances was encouraging and reflected well on the general standard of football played by the seconds, although the failure to take one was, ultimately, critical. The woodwork was struck on 4 occasions, a good 'goal' was wrongly disallowed and the outstanding player on the pitch, their goalkeeper, made at least 4 fantastic saves. As chances came, and went, without the opposition ever really posing a threat the feeling grew that they might just create one chance and score, which they duly did in the 85th minute. Andrew Atkins was outstanding in his second team debut, and despite a lack of goals Jamie Duffy and Nick Powell up front looked like a great partnership in the making. Ben Walker continued his inexorable (in my view)progress from great defender to a great defender/cum flying wing back and the future remains promising. Still unbeaten in the league. MOM Andrew Atkins.
