Match Report - 21 Sep 2019, Leeds Modernians Football Club Reserves beat Alwoodley Res
Alwoodley Res 1 – 3 Leeds Modernians Res
The Mods travelled to away at Alwoodley to compete in the cup and a welcomed rest from the brutal league we find ourselves in.
There was a confident feeling going into the game with the welcome reintroduction of Cappa and Hurrel into the side. The Mods started well but couldn’t find the net, with Hugo going closest hitting the bar from outside the box. As the first half went on frustration started to grow and Alwoodley came into the game. After a few text book Gibbo saves we went into halftime goalless.
The 2nd half began much like the end of the 1st, Alwoodley were on top and manage to sneak a goal to make it 1-0. It was a familiar feeling, but unlike in most of our league games this season we didn’t let our heads drop. For the next 20 minutes we dominated possession and were rewarded for our good attitude with Hugo beating his man and slotting into the bottom corner to make it 1-1. We didn’t stop there, we continued to press into the Alwoodley half pilling on the pressure. After a few scrappy shots in the box (from skelly) The ball fell perfectly to Adam who slotted home to make it 2-1 and score his 3rd goal in as many games. The Mods were in unfamiliar territory winning a game with 20 minutes to go. This didn’t go to their heads, we wanted more, and we got it. An absolute peach of a cross from Adam managed to hit weatherman straight in the face and in the corner for the Mods 3rd and a ticket into the next round.
Overall we showed a great attitude after going 1 down and deserved to go through. Some tough fixtures still to come for the Mods this season, but the signs are there and things are looking up.
