Match Report - 12 Oct 2019, Leeds Modernians Football Club Reserves lost to Salts Res
Mods unlucky as Salts take all 3 points.
Despite starting strongly and taking an early lead through an excellent cross from Wasim and sumptuous first time finish on the volley from Hugo, The Mods failed to get anything from the game.
Salts responded strongly but couldn’t find a way through a solid Mods defence until the referee awarded a soft penalty and despite his best efforts, Mods goalkeeper Gibbo couldn’t keep it out. Salts quickly got a second and would have had a third before the break but again goalkeeper Gibbo rolled back the years, somehow tipping a point blank header over the bar. 2-1 at half time.
The Mods started sluggishly after the break and failed to kick on from a promising first half with Salts scoring early from a corner and taking control of the game. Mods weren’t helped throughout the game by some terrible refereeing decisions with Jack Sewell hacked down on several occasions and nothing being given.
Salts continued to press on scoring again from a set-piece and a further two goals whilst Hugo tucked away a consolation goal for the Mods to end a difficult second half. Final score 6-2.
The Mods are at home in the cup next week against Leeds City Reserves and will be hoping to build on this week’s first half performance.
