Match Report - 04 Oct 2008, Leeds Modernians Football Club 2nds lost to Amaranth OB
A massively improved performance against a very solid, organised and strong, if rather prosaic, opposition. Heroic performances from all the back 4, capped by an MOM performance from Tom Barnsfield in goal. The defense was helped in no small measure by a hard working midfield who shielded the back 4, and got forward when they could. The loss of Simon Blake, who had excelled in central midfield, to a nasty ankle injury on the stroke of half time was a cruel blow. The side, understandably, gradually tired in the second half against the wind, and strong opponents, and although the goal was within 7 minutes of the end it had, perhaps, been coming. In retrospect, a tactical switch to 5 in midfield with the extra man shielding an increasingly beleaguered back 4, may have salvaged a point, maybe next time it will occur to the manager during rather than after the game. Outstanding performances from Brown, Wilkinson, Bell and Shirley, but MOM to Tom Barnsfield.
