Match Report - 08 Nov 2008, Leeds Modernians Football Club 4ths lost to Bramley Juniors OB III (Hodgson Cup 2nd Round)
Match Report. Sat 8th November 2008
Old Modernain's IV vs. Bramley Juniors III
Hodgson Cup Rd 2
Result: 0-3 (HT 0-1)....bollocks, i hate putting these 'red' scores omn the web...does the pie chart no good neither!!!
What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?
- Only the monstruous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.
No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs, -
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.
What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of good-byes.
The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;
Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.

......Back to our own 'doom'.
.We were severely spanked and dumped out of the Cup. No potential semi final with the Old Mod's 3rd's (Hope they win the Cup now...looking at the results at the weekend, it's opened up nicely, only Leeds Medics stand in their way...Makes this defeat even worse......gits!.)
Mmmmmm. not a good day at the office for the 4th's.
The Ref had a mare too.
With reference to the Ref: Shocking decision making.
But what can you do? Argue?.... Get yourself sent off?( Probably, when the Ref is in that frame of mind.)
Be a spectator, in a Public Park, and voice your disagreements as John Doherty did?....Response from the Ref to John Doherty to this scenario?....Get told to leave the ground!!
Toss pot tin pot ref, trying to make himself look cool in front of a bunch of young, ill disciplined (o.k., some are highly skilled as-well) Bramley player's.
What a dick.
It made me sick having to give him money to pay his fees after the game.
Anyway...what can you do?
Zilch. (i wanted to give the Ref a 3/10, but that would have meant all kinds of paper work, which i can't be bothered with. Plus, it looks churlish after a 3-0 defeat.....they deserved their victory, to some degree, because they wanted it more.)
Having said that, as much as the Ref didn't help matters, we were below par.
Below par that is in our communication, our belief that we could have won the game, and belief in one another.
Very flat, not quite from the start, but near as damned it.
Unusual for the lads in the team, and it's the first time it has happened this season.
I was at a loss afterward to put my finger on it.
A few new faces? A couple of changes here and there?
Maybe, but i don't think so.
I think as player's on the pitch we have to take collective responsibility for this defeat.
Not solely my bag this time.
At the start of the game, the signs looked good. We passed the ball around, there was movement off the ball and we created a few openings.
Then on about 15/20 mins it all started to unravel.
Their most destructive player (both in scoring a hat-trick from midfield, and by hacking at everything in sight) began to run the show.
When he was taken off on about 65mins (and as their Coach commented, because he'd won the game and even he couldn't believe that the lad was still on the pitch, so he thought it best to take him off before he is sent off.....my response was...mmmm, with this ref, he could have broken a players leg and the ref would have claimed it was just 'impetuous youth'...To his credit, he agreed...however, it's easy to agree when you have won 3-0 to anything, even that Gary Lovelace is good looking!) we pressed and huffed and puffed and kept trying, but nothing went for us.
I can't fault the lads commitment in wanting to try and make it work, or for battling, however, as a team it was not good enough in many areas.
The team will have to significantly improve next week to stand any chance of competing with the opposition.
The fact that it is the very same opponents (this time at their ground) compounds this belief.
I'm confident we will.
We have learned enough about what they have to offer, and if Bramley offer a similar line up, I believe that we can conjure a plan (that as a team we will stick to) which will give ourselves a great chance of taking 3 points off them. But, we've got to work hard and believe and want this to happen, as a team.
I believe in the lads in the team, we are easily capable of beating this Bramley lot, and i trust that this performance was purely a bad day at the office for the 4th's.
My m.o.m, Ubermensch Ubuntu, was Scot Gamble.
On a day when many around had, by their own standards, a below par game, Scot put in another excellent performance.
Well played Scot.
