"The Pitch is unplayable....."
On the back of a great 3 points away from home last week against Altofts, the boys were keen to get back out on the pitch and fight for another victory. Despite the nonsense during the course of the morning the game went ahead as planned, and we won't dwell on the issues as it was clear that both teams were keen to play. Although some serious questions should be raised about how our referee appointment was cancelled after the pitch was deemed to be fit to play, very confusing.
Donning a brand new shiny white kit, sponsored again by Pizza House, it was up to the to ensure that the positivity from training was brought forward into this fixture.
With some clearly disappointed lads starting from the bench, the starting 11 looked very familiar to how the game ended the previous week. It is a great position to be in, having such strong squad depth means that everyone within the squad has a key role to play for the team on match days and this point cannot be stressed enough.
The game started very well for the men in white, unfortunately early chances missed and one small mistake resulting in Tingley taking the lead just before half time. Similar story to last week in that this was completely against the run of play. Mods forced Tingley to make mistakes in possession, resulting in them kicking the ball out and not looking comfortable with the ball at feet. On the contrary the Mods were finding feet with ease and playing sensible football, the Tingley midfield in truth were no match for James, Du, Frances and Gilly. Baz and Kyle lead from the front for the first 45, both keeping the Tingley defence honest and the defensive unit looked very calm in Nick, Kluska, Lang and Skelton. Players within the squad are really starting to form some strong partnerships.
One change at half time, saw Kyle replaced by Sewell. Do not let to work done by Kyle in the first 45 go un-noticed, the Tingley defence were worked hard and looked tired.
Continued tidy possession from the Mods in the Tingley half and some real pressure lead to Mods first goal. Dan Kluska with a typically robust centre halves header, this season Mods will be a real threat from set pieces with some big hitters in the ranks.
Further changes saw Duval replace Baz, Kieron replace Gilly and a debut for Charlie replacing Nick. Sticking with the shape as it was causing Tingley a whole load of problems the men in white continued to pepper the Tingley goal mouth. Another set piece, another goal, James France finding himself unmarked in the penalty area and volleying home a great goal to make give mods the lead.
The game opened up with 15 to go, with Tingley having a very good opportunity to square things up, but Gibbo standing firm and their striker without the composure to put the ball in the back of the net. The only real chance that Tingley had in the second half.
Further 'controversy' when the Mods were awarded a penalty for what in reality was a clear foul on a decent marauding run from left back from Sam Langley. Penalty, converted, Sewell, goal.
Mods were not finished, and had real desire to put the game to bed. Another set piece, another goal from Dan the Man (of the match) Kluska. Mods scoring 4 goals in a game for the first time in a competitive league game since November 2019, a real sign of how much work the lads have put in to improving the group.
Another unselfish team performance from the group.
MOTM - Dan Kluska, 2 goals, kept the troops well organised, great communication, great decisions in possession.
