Match Report - 02 Oct 2022, Leeds Modernians Football Club Mods U15s beat Wakefield Jets Predators

Mods made it back to back wins with a well deserved win on their travels with an away at Jets Predators in Outwood. Many fans were caught out by the balmy conditions and were soon reaching for their sunglasses, reassured by the fact that it was going to be another day without the heating having to go on!

The whistle went and Mods began their assault up the North Face.

It wasn't long before Alfie was picking up where he finished off last week beating his man but shooting narrowly wide. Jets responded just over Ollie's bar. And then very little seemed to happen. The game sparked back into life, Freddie headed wide and then thought he had scored after dispossessing the keeper and prodding home. Apparently it was a foul on the keeper so was ruled out. Then on 28 minutes, a speculative punt from Jets slipped despairingly from Ollie's grasp and trickled in. Whether it was a goal keeper's union thing or something, Mods were soon level when Jets' keeper seemed rooted to his spot as Freddie bore down and deftly tucked it away. Jets responded soon after with a shot that looped and seemed to take an eternity to come down, fortunately just wide of the post. Harry asked questions with a long range effort of his own before the keeper fumbled a well drilled shot from Sam. Unfortunately no one was there to mop up. Seconds before the final whistle, Ollie saved well to his left to ensure both sides went in level - a moral victory for Mods with the advantage of playing downhill in the second half.

Two minutes into the second half and Sam had the first half chance with a cross shot. A minutes later and Owen got his head to a whipped in corner with the resultant block creating a goal mouth scramble that Jets managed to clear. Mods kept up the pressure and Freddie saw a decent effort well saved by the keeper. Ollie then made the save of the match, arching backwards to tip a venomous shot out of harms way. Mods were controlling the game now with Owen driving forwards like Paulo Maldini and it just felt like a matter of time before the pressure told. And so it did when Freddie dropped his shoulder , got around the back and unselfishly squared it to Kiernan who made no mistake. Freddie was soon in the action again, one on one with the keeper, his shot going just wide. Then with just under ten minutes left, Owen settled the nerves. Spotting the keeper out of position he calmly thundered a left footed shot from way out into the empty net to make in 3-1 to Mods. Freddie and Kieran both had a chance apiece before the whistle went on a comfortable Mods win. Early days but next week's home fixture against top of the table Wakefield Jets Tornadoes already feels like a vital one .
