A glorious saturday afternoon trip saw the mods invincibles heading down the ringroad to 'sunny Swarcliffe', while Andy Hick was called up to Capello's coaching staff meeting, it was director of mods football mighty Mick Birch taking command of the unstoppable force that is mods 3rds!
With continued form in the league, an unknown working mans club team were on the wrong end of a truely magnificent hammering this time in the cup 1st round.
A couple of changes to the line up with Dan Bradistan and James Dougie Howswer fitting in nicely to the swashbuckling style of football which Skipper Jodie enforces throughout this vibrant energised mods squadrant!
It all started beautifully, with some football that had Birchy 'purring' at along with "the greatest bench in 20 years at a mods 3rds side!!"haha. Seriously though, it was superb to watch and the lads soon were showing great form, only to be hit against the run of play by a lad up front wearing gloves in the 90degrees heat (suggestions were that he had no hands, maybe he was just like chubbs off happy gilmore!!!). the striler snook in only to loop it over Damo...... a goal..... AGAINST mods.... No No No, this wasnt in the script.
So, kicked and ready to fight, Jodie continued his troops, leading by example with awesome bursting runs, slipping it out wide for the 3 bad touches of binnsy to cruise up the right wing and whip in some great balls to the strikers.
As if Dougie wasnt hot enough, his request to the bench of "pass me some deep heat 10 mins in was mocked by Birchy and the lads as the sweat sweltered off everyone!!
This didnt unstable the youngster as he banged in 2 sweet goals in succession folowing the 28th set of corners that Ashy managed to nod wide!!
'The Unit' was in fine form as he won everything, with his fro like a magnet evertime the ball left Stu's sweet left peg!
Flash and Lazenby dominated the midfield, and it wasnt long before mods hit a 3rd with a power driving free kick fresh off the training ground! HT 1-3!
2nd half saw a few forced changes due to injuries from Kerr who injured himself hurting their left winger so many times, plus the bottle of vodka consumed the night before was seaping the vision of the in form modsman!
Subs of Campbell, Tim Hill and sproats injected further pain as they aimed to push on for more goals, and this came when Dan White who had battled so strongly got his just rewrds when smashing past the keeper in a 1 on 1 situation!
Not to mention the confidence of these lads being so high, as top scorer Matty attempted a shot from the half way line with his first touch, (as he spotted the keeper 3 inches off his line), only for the keeper to take the following 'throw-in' himself!!
A frustrated Swarcliffe conceded a late pass back free kick only for their man to be sent off for letting the ref know he wasnt best pleased with his judgement!! The resulting kick knocked in by Ashy to bag his 2nd goal in as many games!
A job well done for mods, and special mention goes out to Swarcliffe for their excellent hospitality and food provided after the game.
Particular worries tho was the football card that was flying around at 50p a go, with 40 teams on it, winner taking £25....... you do the maths " oh look 'Dick has won again!!!!"
