But fast-forward to the modern age and you’ll find a new ‘Face’ added to that illustrious list.
3rd September 2011 (Cents Ground, West Park) Tommy Stenger – “The Stenger Face”
When many a lesser player would simply opt for an ‘old fashioned’ header on goal, not Tommy Stenger. Stenger is constantly striving to reinvent the beautiful game and on this sunny September afternoon he used his face to knock the ball past the keeper and get the Mods 3rds up and running for the 2011/12 season. Later in the same afternoon he was to use his face again to assist a goal for fellow Mod Matty Campbell.
He repeated the trick the following weekend scoring another crafty face goal.
